WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
Counselling is the general term for a range of talking therapies. Therapy is conducted with a trained practitioner who works with you over a short or longer period to help you bring about effective change or to enhance your well-being. This can relate to day to day worries or more traumatic events such as the loss of a loved one, divorce, abuse or employment related stress.
WHAT JO OFFERS – a face to face counselling service using a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person Centred and the more holistic approaches such as Mindfulness. All my therapeutic techniques are an individual process which is driven by your input and development working together collaboratively.
- Exploration:- Talking things through with someone who is really listening and connecting with you helping you explore your thoughts and feelings about what is happening in your life.
- Understanding:- Helping you to gain an insight into your thoughts, feelings and actions. Discovering new aspects about yourself by identifying your strengths and helping you to move forward to manage and improve your life.
- Acting:- Jo can help you work out what changes you can make and how you can go about achieving your chosen goal for the future.
When you decide you wish to go ahead with counselling, you will be asked to read and sign a contract which sets out the Terms and Conditions of receiving counselling from Teesdale Counselling Services.
The contract includes limits of confidentiality, note taking and record keeping, professional supervision and our complaints procedure as defined by the BACP Ethical Framework, 2013.
